Key Takeaways
- The Navy PRT (Physical Readiness Test) consists of 3 events: push-ups, forearm plank, and a cardio event with 4 options.[1]
- Scoring follows Navy Guide 5A with categories: Outstanding, Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Probationary, and Failure.[2]
- Four cardio options: 1.5-mile run, 500-yard swim, 2,000m row, or 12-minute stationary bike.
- The overall category is based on the average of all three event scores, adjusted by age and sex.
The Three PRT Events
Push-Ups (2 Minutes)
Maximum repetitions in 2 minutes. Arms must extend fully and chest must come within a fist's width of the deck. Rest is permitted in the up position only. Track your push-up progress with our Push-Up Calculator.
Forearm Plank
Hold a forearm plank for maximum time. Body must remain straight from head to heels. The plank replaced the curl-ups/sit-ups event in 2021. Minimum passing time varies by age and sex.
Cardio Event (1 of 4 options)
Choose one: 1.5-mile run (time), 500-yard swim (time), 2,000m row (time), or 12-minute stationary bike (calories burned). The run is the most common choice. Use our Running Calorie Calculator for training preparation.
Scoring Categories
Each event is scored on a 0–100 point scale. The overall PRT score is the average of all three events:[2]
| Category | Score Range |
|---|---|
| Outstanding | 90–100 |
| Excellent | 75–89 |
| Good | 60–74 |
| Satisfactory | 45–59 |
| Probationary | 25–44 |
| Failure | < 25 |
